First Saddling

The more you can teach a horse on the ground, the better he’ll be under saddle -This is especially true when introducing the saddle to a horse. Rather than being quick to swing a leg over the horse, first get him comfortable with the saddle. For example, practice slapping the seat and flapping the stirrups until the horse is relaxed both standing still and moving his feet. Then build on moving his forequarters and hindquarters with the stirrups from the ground, etc. Remember, a foundation is the most important thing you will ever put on a horse. Period. You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes under saddle.
