Be Creative

Most people just want a magic answer to solve their horse’s less than desirable behavior. “My horse is pushy, so if I just do this, it’ll go away.” No, your horse has to see you as a leader by earning his respect. One of the most overlooked opportunities towards gaining a horse’s respect is taking him from the barn to the round pen, or from the pasture to the barn, etc. Rather than just simply walking your horse the same boring way, every boring day, and he learns nothing, be creative about how you move your horse’s feet from Point A to Point B. For example, rather than leading your horse out of his pen, back him up out of his pen, or out of the barn. Backing is the ultimate to gaining a horse’s respect. Backing fixes biting. Backing fixes pushy, disrespectful behavior. Send your horse in and out of the gate, side pass him down the fence- It doesn’t matter how you move your horse’s feet, just be creative. The more you move your horses feet forwards, backwards, left and right, the more respect you’ll earn.
